What is a niche?

Anything you can think is a niche, from how to take care of your pet hamster to creating scrapbooks. A niche is in essence any subject that anybody is searching for. Now of course some niches are better than others and this is true whether it be on how easy you can get on the top of the SERPs (Search Engine Results Page) or how much potential money you can make from the niche.

Determining the Value of a Niche!

How much money you can potentially make on any given niche is not so easy to figure out, there are so many factors involved that it is nearly impossible to just look at a niche and figure you will be able to make x amount of dollars from it each day, week, month or year. However there are some sure fire things you can do to help you determine a good approximation based on several factors.

How Much Traffic Can You Expect to Get?

An important factor, actually maybe the most important factor is the amount of traffic you can expect on a daily basis. Of course you are probably asking yourself how the heck can you figure out how much traffic you might be able to get to your website. Don’t worry, I will show you some great tips a bit later.

Advertising or Affiliate?

Another important factor deals with how you are going to be attempting to make money online. Are you looking to use Google AdSense to make money or are you going to try selling other peoples products as an affiliate. Of course you might be really gun-ho and decide to create your own product to sell. What ever your choice there are some common things that need to be done before picking a niche to try and pursue.

The Blueprint!

Lesson 1: The Basics of Micro Niche Finder

Decide on a niche to research:

Assuming you have an idea for a niche to start researching we can first open up Micro Niche Finder and and type in your keyword or keyword phrase into the search box located in Micro Niche finder. Once you enter your search you will have a screen come up showing you all the related keywords that Micro Niche Finder came up with as well as several columns that will eventually be displaying some incredibly important information.

You will see the Exact Phrase Count, the Ad Cost  the Commercial Intent and the Strength of Competition (SOC). Please not that you can sort each field into descending or ascending order just by clicking on the title for each column in order to make things easier to view.

Search Count:

The number of searches shows the amount of searches performed each month for each keyword or keyword phrase that Micro Niche Finder has displayed. Of course the higher this number the better. Keep in mind the results show are for the previous month and most searches will vary from month to month or season to season.

The Exact Phrase Count :

the exact phrase count is the number of times that exact phrase appears on the internet, typically the lower the number the better, however be aware that if there are very few instances of a particular phrase, it very well could be that there is no money to be made from it. To get quick rankings on the search engine you should shoot for keyword phrases that have less than a 10,000 exact phrase count. This does not mean to rule out keyword phrases that have a higher exact phrase count, just remember that the more exact phrases there are out there the longer it will take to rank for.

Ad Cost:

The Ad Cost displays what an advertiser can expect to pay, on average,  for each click on an ad they have running using that keyword or keyword phrase. For an AdSense publisher this can be a good indication of the amount you may receive for each click on an ad running on your website or blog that is using that keyword or keyword phrase.

Naturally the higher the cost the more you should make per click, or expect to pay if you are using AdWords to advertise, however from a publishers stand point it is very difficult to pinpoint how much money you may actually receive. I have seen sites running what should be high paying ads paying very little per click while sites with lower paying keywords are paying fairly high, so don’t get to wrapped up in this aspect, unless planning to use PPC for traffic. It is probable wise to stay away from extremely low paying keywords unless there is a very large amount of traffic when looking at AdSense as an income source.

Commercial Intent:

The Commercial Intent is a great feature of Micro Niche Finder and one that is can really mean the difference between profit and losses, especially when it comes to the marketing of products. However this is not such a big factor with sites trying to earn an income strictly from AdSense. What the commercial intent is going to tell you is the probability of some one using the keyword phrase in their search wanting to make a purchase, if the commercial intent is high then the person doing the search is more than likely looking to make a purchase, if it is low then the person is more than likely just looking for information.

Strength of Competition:

The SOC or strength of competition is an extremely important factor to take into account, this factor will indicate how difficult the niche will be to enter in to when it comes to achieving good rankings. You will see three different colored indicators as well as a number. The colors are the first thing to take notice of, there is red for difficult, yellow for some difficulty and green for easy. The strength is based on 3 different factors, inanchor count, intitle count and inurl count. The inanchor count tells you how many instances of the keyword phrase being used as an anchor text, the intitle count will tell you how many pages on the internet have the phrase in their title and the inurl count will tell you how many pages have the keyword phrase in the URL. Of course the lower the number in each count the better.

Now when you first get the results from your search you will notice that all of the information that is provided is not being shown yet. Before requesting all of the data for each category I suggest going through your list of phrases first and deleting any that may be impossible to use, for example if your original search term was “car rentals” and one of the resulting phrases that comes up is “car business rental” then you would most likely delete that phrase as it would be quite difficult to use in an article. Additionally I suggest deleting any keyword phrases that have less than 500 searches  for each month. It really isn’t worth wasting your time for so few visitors.

To delete keyword phrases that you do not want to get more results for simply check the box next to the each of the phrases you want to delete then either scroll to the top or bottom of the page and click on the “Delete Checked Results” button

*Please note that Micro Niche Finder uses Google to perform all of it’s searches and is requesting a lot of information, Google may ban your IP for a minimal amount of time which will disrupt your use of the program and require you to enter in a captcha when attempting to use Google services through your browser. This is only temporary and will not cause any permanent harm*

Next we will get the SOC for each phrase that you have remaining, now to do this you can simply click on each of the “Get SOC” button for each phrase or you can click on the button at the top of the page that says “Check All Results” and then click on the “Get Checked SOC” button (this method can be used for each category of results). This will allow you to retrieve all of the results with one click, however depending on the number of keyword phrases you are retrieving information for this could take a bit of time.

Once all of your SOC results have been retrieved you can then filter out the ones you will not want to use, meaning anything in red and quite often anything in yellow. However do not discount anything in yellow if the number that is part of the SOC is low enough and the number of searches is high enough. It may very well be worth pursuing. Do delete the results that you do not want simply check the boxes once again and delete the checked results.

The next category you will want to check is the Exact Phrase count, again this is an indicator of how hard or easy it will be to rank for a keyword. As mentioned we are really looking for keyword phrases with less than 10,000, however you must weight the number of searches with the exact phrase count and the SOC to make a final determination. A keyword phrase with a 22,000 exact phrase count, a low SOC and 50,000 searches a month may well be worth trying to rank for, however just remember the higher exact phrases count that a keyword phrase has, the longer it will take you to rank for.

So for a quick overview of what I have covered today, When you start up Micro Niche Finder you will want to enter in the keyword or keyword phrase that you would like to do a search for, once the results are displayed you can then view the information provided to begin to find a niche for you to work on. Get the results for all of the keyword phrases you are considering so far and then filter out the results so everything left meets the guidelines we have set, which is a low SOC (in the green), an exact phrase count of 10,000 or less and number of monthly searches performed each month at 500 or higher. Don’t forget to try and delete all of the keyword phrases that you know you will not want before retrieving the different results, this will speed things for you quite a bit.
